Relief and Refugees

relief

Years of warfare characterized by mass destruction and genocide have caused millions of Africans to become either refugees or displaced. Industries which sustain the economy have been destroyed. Many, many people are now totally dependent upon relief for survival. The tragedies of Africa have been so long-running that it is difficult to see when they will ultimately be resolved. Yet even as "compassion fatigue" has set in, hunger and starvation have become the chief killer in the region.

As a life-saving venture, and in accordance with its purpose of SERVICE, ACFI launched the Relief Ministry (Acts 11:29). This effort supplements the relief program of the UN in specific ways. Directly attending to the real needs and sufferings with love, this ministry has been instrumental in saving thousands of lives. The ministry has received offical government recognition for its work, and operates with tax-exempt and duty-free status. Relief consignments sent from overseas for this ministry are tax-free and delivered without interference.

The ministry is expanding to include vast areas of need. At present only Liberia and Sierra Leone can be attended to because of limited resources. As situations improve, other needy areas will be included.
