Liberia, West Africa is a country recovering from 14 years of civil war. The conflict has left the nation in economic ruin with electricity, water and sewage either limited or unavailable in most parts of the country. Despite nearly five years of peace, Liberia is still one of the poorest countries in the world with thousands of orphaned and indigent children.
Over 400 of these children reside at the Daniel Hoover Children's Village and the Deaf Home outside of the capital city of Monrovia. These orphanages are maintained by African Christians Fellowship International (ACFI) and are mainly supported by individual donors and churches.
Some support also comes from an adoption program in which some of the children at the orphanages are placed into loving, Christian families. Due to several factors including the recent increased cost of staple foods, a moratorium on adoptions for several months in 2008, and only half of the children having sponsors, the current faithful donations received do not cover the monthly cost to maintain the orphanages. Many months there are not resources to provide the basic necessities of food, health care, and caretakers' salaries.
You can help change this. By sponsoring a child through Christian Adoption Services and their African Child Sponsorship program, you can help provide food, basic medical care and an education for these children. Would you be willing to commit $40 a month to show the love of Christ in a tangible way to the children of Liberia?
